At around 2:47 p.m., Elizabeth firefighters responded to a three-story home located at 537 East Jersey Street to combat a house fire.

According to Fire Chief Daniel Campbell, when firefighters and emergency personnel arrived on the scene, there was fire heavy fire in the basement,. It is unclear at this time if that is where the fire originated, Campbell said.

A 55-year-old woman was rescued from the third floor attic of the home and transported to St. Barnabas Hospital In Livingsyon according to Campbell. The womans's condition is unknown at this time but injuries appear to be non-life threatened, added the chief.

A firefighter was transported to Trinitas Hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion, Campbell said.
