Elizabeth FMBA Pays Tribute to FDNY Lt. Gordon "Matt" Ambelas
Updated On: Sep 03, 2014

Members of Elizabeth FMBA Locals 9 and 209 participated in the funeral procession of FDNY Lt. Gordon "Matt" Ambelas, a 14-year veteran of FDNY Ladder Co. 199, who died during a search for victims inside a burning Williamsburg apartment building in the Williamsburg section on Saturday, July 5.

The Elizabeth Fire Department and Police Department met the funeral procession at the foot of the Goethals Bridge as the procession entered Elizabeth from Staten Island.  While on duty firefighters stood by their apparatus to greet the procession, police led the procession through the city to Rosehill Cemetery in Linden with the assistance of the Linden Police Department.

As the procession entered the cemetery it passed Elizabeth Ladder 1 and Linden Engine 5 before rolling down the roadway lined with officers and firefighters from each department.  The solemn moment was captured by Mark R. Sullivan, staff photographer of myCentralJersey.com.  His photos can be found by following this link: http://mycj.co/1mkFB5d.

The inturnent of Lt. Ambelas was private.
